Celebration of 12th Anniversary of Croatian Cartographic Society

Miljenko Lapaine

Abstract

The Croatian Cartographic Society (CCS) celebrated its 12th birthday in the Technical Museum in Zagreb on October 10, 2013. The President of CCS first held a short lecture, reminding the audience that the founding assembly was held on October 10, 2001. The idea to establish the Society came up in 1994, when the Section for Cartography was being formed within the existing geodetic society. For the sake of simplicity, it was decided to establish a section within the Croatian Geodetic Society rather than an independent cartographic society. The main reasons for establishing the Croatian Cartographic Society in 2001 were independence and easier collaboration with other, non-geodetic professions.
