Two Vienna Manuscript Atlases with Cartographic Representations of Croatian Cities from the 16th Century

Ivka Kljajić, Miljenko Lapaine

Abstract

Two manuscript atlases (Cod. 8607 and Cod. 8609) from the Collection of Manuscripts, Documents and Heritage of the Austrian National Library (Handschriften-, Autographen- und Nachlass-Sammlung der Österreichischen Nationalbibliothek) in Vienna are described. The time of acquisition of both atlases is reconstructed. Lists of all cartographic representations they contain are given for both atlases. The text found on the first sheet of the atlas Cod. 8609 is published for the first time in Croatia in the original form, in old German, as well as in Croatian translation. A comparison of these atlases is presented at the end.
