A Proposal of ENC Cell Distribution of the Croatian Part of the Adriatic

Tea Duplančić Leder, Miljenko Lapaine

Abstract

Hydrographic Institute of the Republic of Croatia started the production of Electronic Navigational Charts(ENC) of the Croatian part of the Adriatic in 2001, in cooperation with the Italian company C-Map that proposed and developed the design of ENC production process. In practice, the process proved to be insufficiently adapted to specific qualities of the Croatian part of the Adriatic Sea and HHI's long tradition of chart production. It is the reason why the need for a redesign of the process of ENC production occurred. In this paper, a new classification of ENC cells is proposed for the Croatian part of the Adriatic Sea, in order to optimise the process of ENC production and improve the paper chart production from a unique cartographic database. This new ENC classification is also necessary for better management and maintenance of the database.
